Has anyone worked with the new Report Builder in VeSys 2.0 Ver.2014.1.92?  I'm trying to generate a report that will show TO and FROM strip lengths and terms please advise.  And is there a way to not repeat like "Design Partnumber" I only need it once. Thanks Scott

DxDatabook configuration file autoload via automation

Hi,

we are facing the problem, that we have several sites and we do some concurrent designing. Now the problem is, that every site has its own DxDatabook configuration file.

Is there a way to change the used configuration file via automation?

I see a way to do it via modification of the project file, but this seems a little bit risky for concurrent designs.

Undo limit

We confused about Undo, Redo, save and rollback process. I had read "Unlimited Undo" capability in manuals. But sometimes tool allows just 1 or 2 times "UNDO" in DxDesigner. I just aware, if I run "Rollback Sheet", all UNDO levels are lost. But I don't know any situation which undo/redo is limited. Or maybe tool is deleting undo levels at every auto backup time. Could you please clarify this issue?

Andy,

on the 'AE training prospect meeting.pdf' document sheet 3 can we get more information or an example of a untraceable fault report?

Customer ref slide - Moved from main site (HPT)

Hi Folks,

Additional to what I proposed yesterday I do propose to add a customer ref slide to the mgmt presentation....

Based on the earlier comment Mentor is not responsive and competitor'S FUD (MGC not interested in Aero) this is my proposed Response.

Option to add US accounts in a similar Fashion will unveal the competitor to be  bull-shitting.

(Pls Use the content  of this list confidential; only for the training at this time.....)

In summary ... a very focused mgmt presentation will hit the target to get a Pilot going.

Team, I don't understand why we would not put MFG into the scope of the pilot? Did I missinterprete what I was reading?

I remember a comment that the prospect has specialist team to Setup a modular concept.

A symbiosys of their prototype work shop results and the use Mod XC for series production bridges the gap to production in my min; and introduces a coherent data flow outlook in a foreseeable future.

I see that advantage to beat Dassault technically

based on their clear focus to approach the EE process from an MCAD- and PLM-  angle (pure hierarchical structure; not considering functional and system Network - !!! system designs shown in one of the avis  miss the link (intelligent re-partitioning of systems into harnessses ) to MCAD . at least I couldn't figure that out...!!!).

My proposal for the Pilot scheduling (last part  of the mhmgmt presentation) would be

1) set scope and goals of Pilot  -- 2...3 days

2) front-end training  -  5 days

3) AE guided ramp-up  5 days

4) prospect work on their subjects  guided by weekly Status calls/webexes/visits -  4 weeks

parallel towards mid of  4)  training back-end with a focus  for modular design

overlapping with 4) a similar approach for back-end like 3)

5) 2,5 Month int the Pilot - Initial outcome meeting - findings of our specialists with proposals for an improved process after the Pilot.

6) last week of Pilot common  presentation  to mgmt. Propsect may have had a private session at that time already

Pain points

$

During our meeting today we agreed that a good start to an executive presentation at the VP level was a slide that stated back to them what we see as their pain points.  We agreed to go through the initial material and follow up responses to cull out what we saw as key pain points.  Below are what I see as key pain points for our presentation.  Please add your thoughts in a reply.

Pain:  Cost of design capture is 3-4X what it could be

Symptom:  Redundant IP EVERYWHERE

Symptom:  System data re-entered by engineering

Symptom:  Engineering data re-entered by manufacturing

Symptom:  All data re-entered by Tech Pubs

Symptom:  Each tail has a unique document set – no reuse of common systems

Pain: Maintenance costs of some systems 10X what they could be

Symptom:  Extremely high untraceable fault levels for some systems

Symptom:  manual hand off between systems engineering

Symptom:  no feedback loop providing actual metrics

Symptom:  no automated requirements tracking

Symptom:  no automated change management cycle

Pain:  Inability to predict the schedule impact and cost of regulatory compliance effort

Symptom:  No system in place to drive rules during design phase

Symptom:  No System in place to insure rules compliance before document release

Pain: Inability to quantify cost advantage of weight reduction activities

Symptom: disconnected manual effort to validate weight is too slow for iterative design

Symptom: No automated method to quickly compare different scenarios

Symptom:  No automated system in place to validate the TOTAL cost of harness variations

Pain: Inability to reuse existing harnesses causes huge cost overruns

Symptom: No method to migrate and validate existing harness designs for potential reuse

Moving to China for 2 years...

Hello,

I have the opportunity to move to Shanghai or Guangzhou for a 2 years posting. As my customer are outside China how difficult or easy it will be to work. I normally rely on  Dropbox and Hightail for data exchange. both are "restricted". Any alternative? Any advise? Move or don't move?

Thanks

Is there an easy way to "gang" the pin names used in each side of an inline pair in Capital Logic?

Within our company, we're now using Capital Logic on multiple aircraft projects and one thing that is common across them all is the way inline pair connectors are used.  The pin names on each side of the inline pair should always match.  In most cases, the pin name on one side of the inline pair is hidden.  Despite us having an "inline pair editor" custom action, it's so easy for the users just to double click on th visible pin name from one half of the inline pair and edit that, then forget about the hidden pin name on the other side.

DRC's can check these pin names to ensure they match but I think in most cases, a company who uses inline pairs will always have the same pin idents on each half of the inline.

I've put an SR in asking whether there are any fixes / plans to change this functionality but I'm interested in whether anyone on the community also finds this a problem.  We don't define pin maps in Capital Library, our connectors are placed on the fly, but we still need that continuity between the pin names on each side of the inline.

Thanks,

Abbey.

Pads Logic 9.5 bug- Reloading a part from library reloads all same-type parts on schematic

$

Hello- Has anyone else found a workaround for this major bug in Pads Logic 9.5?

Bug: In a schematic with multiple instances of the same part, if you reload a part with the same part from the library, (Properties/Change Type) then it will reload EVERY part in the schematic of the same type, even though the checkbox "Apply update to" "[ ] This Part" is checked, and the "[ ] All Parts this type" checkbox is NOT checked.

Therefore, you will LOSE any changes you have made to other parts of the same part on the schematic, for example, if you have changed a a displayed attribute to show "DoNotPopulate" then that info is lost from the schematic.

The only workaround I have found is to change the part type to a different part type, and then change it again to the same part type. Then the other parts of the same original type are not affected.

Thanks

Please give me a reason to keep sticking with PADS

Ok, I'm a little bit stressed out in here. I'm running basically a one man engineering office. I have PADS LS Suite and use mostly Logic and PADS Layout - only occasionally PADS Router but no DxDesigner at all.

With the new design where I need to apply SDRAM or even DDR, it would help alot to have length control for routing the bus. A signal integrity check would be nice feature as well and for few times I have missed differential routing rules that are not included in PADS Router in LS suite.

These features I can get my upgrading my PADS to ES Suite, but it does cost money. Plus to this, my annual subscription would double. So, I've started to look for other options as well... And one is Altium Designer, that is half the price of ES Suite, but about the same in cost of LS -> ES upgrade. I have evaluated Altium now a little bit and it does look like a nice tool. I probably does have its flaws as well, but features are many and from my point of view most what I would use are quite capable doing what they were designed to do. Absolutely welcome features are things like gerber tools (I can view gerbers I made, I can do panelizing) or generating STEP models from my boards (I have had requests from my clients for this and IDF is NOT an solution unless I want to ask for my clients each time to buy a IDF importer plugin for their MCAD just for importing this one object to their system, that's plain silly).

The schematic capture is also quite nice looking although it will take time to get used to it. I guess DxDesigner comes close to it in features such as reusability and blocking your repeatable parts of your design but there is a learning curve as well thus no matter what route I go I need to familiarize myself with the new tool. Altium also offers lots of ready made library components that can be used to build your own library quicker (saves tons of time for new components, like MCU's). Also trainings are either free (when under subscription) or at least very, very reasonable priced. I can't help but feel that Altium offers more bang for a buck. I'm starting to feeling like I'm a too small user for Mentor Graphics for it to be the supplier for my EDA software.

I don't know, I'm pulling my hair off while I'm trying to make the decision between these two options. Then again I have also a third option: just to try going on with the current tools even if it is not the perfect choice.

PSPICE to HyperLynx Analog Library Converter

Hi,

I am working with SCS205KGHR(SiC-Schotoky-Barrier-Diode, ROHM) and need to convert the model to a HLA library by using "HyperLynxAnalog library converter".

However, this Spice model includes lines start wtih ".FUNC~" where the converter make them coment-out.

Here is the line and error message and attached the Spice model and log file.

----------

Message (1): Line 10:

                .FUNC R1(36.05m*I*ABS(I)**0.022*EXP((TEMP-T0)/144.4*EXP((TEMP-T0)/-9154))}

error -- Unknown control card. It will be converted to a comment.

---------

Does anyone know how to use this kind of Spice model on HyperLynxAnalog? or Is there any tools can make the model be able to use on HyperLynxAnalog?

Thank you,

Preparing presentation for VPs - actions required

$

Hi,

during SKO AE training the time is short to prepare a good presentation.

There are a lot of experienced team members and I assume with a lot of good slides in the background.

To start collecting may I ask you to add required slides to this threat. And using these as a base the VPs should chose our team to proceed with.

Whats required:

- VALUE based slides to support the painpoints we had identified.

What else ?

- deployment proposal

Thanks for working hard to win this prospect against our other two internal competitors and to win against Dassault.

All,

I have a GDS II open in Calibre DesignRev.  Now I want to get the x,y coordinates of a particular cell in a die. Also, Is it possible to get x,y coordinates of all the cells or particular type (like AND gates) or to Highlight / Select all the cells of a particular type in complete layout.

VP - Presentation

Team,

Todays meeting was a fruitful one and I believe we agreed to the following:

1. The 15 minute presentation would consist of no more than 5 slides.

2. The first slide would be a re-statement of the problem areas within the customer, as identified through other community threads.

3. We may or may not include a swimlane if we feel it would be prudent to highlight the pilot process. Initial feelings are that this would not be necessary.

4. We need to agree on a direction for the pilot, knowing we have 3 months, we need to compile a list of objectives, and document a flow.

5. Initial thoughts were to focus on change and configuration management. Other areas we may consider include, systems (functional design), manufacturing, service.

I propose to add the slides here as we agree on the content.

As for the Pilot, I have a few questions/suggestions for the group as we push forward.

1. Are we proposing a green field pilot, or will we want to migrate some of their existing designs?

2. Do we want to consider first pass generative?

3. Will our current implementation of effectivity be simple enough, yet complete enough, to answer the configuration problem?

4. How much integration to the rest of the enterprise do we add in? Teamcenter? MCAD? etc...

5. API/Extensibility exposure. I am sure there will be some reporting requirements, but what else may we want to consider? Bridges? Web Services?

6. The Publisher piece is essentially free, I think we should include this in the pilot.

I am not saying we have to document any of this, but we should at least have these concepts in mind whilst building a proposal.

I am also sure that there are 101 other things we could add to this list, but right now I am thinking outside of the core tools.

How to display a file selecting dialog on Windows7

Hello All.

On WindowsXP, when I need to display a file selecting dialog, I use the following object: Set objDialog = CreateObject("UserAccounts.CommonDialog").

On Windows7, this doesn't work.

I would like to hear from Windows7 users: what object do they use when they need to display a file selecting dialog?

How to create a part with 0 pins?

Hi all,

I am running xDX designer and Pads VX. We have a shorting clip part which we like to place in the schematic and on the board to show default locations on a 3 pin header.

Packaging tool complains that there is no pin data and will not package to the board.

I have looked high and low to find a solution.

Does anyone know how to create a part with no pins that will package to the board?

Add via option in padstack editor is grayed out

I need to add some vias in the design.  I have a integrated project that I have done and I need to add a couple of vias for routing and pouring now.

The add via button is greyed out.  How do we add the additional vias?  In a old "normal" design we have full control.  Is it dictated on the front end in xDX ?

Thanks,

migrating from Logic to DxDesigner

$

Hi All.

I've been a long-time Logic user and have grown to love it after getting settled into its methods and madness.  I've only recently started getting up to speed on a new release, having spent much of my time using 2007 & 2009.

I'm hoping to establish a path for our engineering teams to use a common PADS suite and it looks to me that DxDesigner is Mentor's preferred schematic capture and simulation front-end now.  Frankly, after learning to navigate through Logic at a comfortable pace, I do not want to step back and learn to adopt new practices and work-arounds and even more methods and madness...  And I really appreciate the interface parallels between Logic and Layout.  But I don't want to impede my access to tools like Hyperlynx Analog and I don't want to replicate work between the two environments.

So: is there a conversion tool to port my existing Logic schematics over to DxDesigner schematics that I can then set up in full-blown DxDesigner projects?  It'd be a lot easier if I could - then i could always do the grunt work in Logic and ease my way into DxDesigner...  Is there a way to make Logic my schematic editor within DxDesigner??

I've done a little searching and found remarks about work in progress on various conversion tools, but I didn't find a definitive yes/no regarding DxDesigner <-> Logic.

Thanks for any info or pointers!
