DxDesigner Cross Probe: What's the deal?
Hello,
In Design Capture (2005) cross probing worked wonderfully for us during design reviews. For instance, if we wanted to review a DDR layout we would:
- 1) Setup the cross probe settings so that Select was OFF and Highlight was ON.
- 2) Then highlight all of the chips involved. The CPU and several DDR chips were highlighted. These would be across many pages on the schematic. The pads and part outlines were solidly highlighted.
- 3) Then highlight all of the address lines.
- 4) Then clear the highlights with the lampshade button, start back at #2, and then select the data lines.
When we did this, we didn’t have to hold down CTRL or anything like that. Highlights held until we cleared them with the lampshade (clear highlights) button.
When we upgraded to Design Capture 2007, things got goofy. Cross probing was “updated” so that highlighting didn’t hold the highlight as you moved from part to part unless you held CTRL. I was told that this is what the customers wanted, which sounds funny since that’s how Select works. And the parts wouldn’t highlight pads solidly unless you messed around with the Display Solid Color button. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. However, I found a way to trick it into working like it did in the 2005 version (long story). This was irritating, but it could still be used if you knew the “trick”.
Now I’m evaluating DxDesigner. I can’t do what I want to do (as described in # 1-4 above). Highlights don’t stay highlighted. I can’t “trick” it into working. I can’t cross probe across multiple pages without the highlights disappearing when I go to a new page. Am I doing something wrong? Is this how it is supposed to work?

Report Writer problem on VX1
When I work with Xpedition VX1 64bit if I press the Report Writer button to generate the necessary files, the program generates the folder ./vbreport/output that contains no files .mdc.
Xpedition creates an empty folder.
Instead there are files in ./vbreport/work.
I have installed the patch X-ENTP_VX.1_update3_ESDM.ix64, butthe problem has not been resolved.
What can I do?

"This method/property is obsolete" error
Hi,
Whenever I launch xDX Designer(PADSVX.0), I get the following message
Source: 'xDX Designer'
Line: 13 Char:1
Error:0x800a029e 'This method/property is obsolete.'
What does this mean? My current installation was done on top of the previous version, but I have also seen it on a fresh installation on a completely new laptop. None of my coworkers experience this error, but I experienced it on both my workstation and the laptop. Could it somehow be linked to my user account on the network? That seems to be the only thing common to the two machines I have seen the error on.
It seems that xDX designer works fine, but the error still appears upon launching the program.

FMC not being carried over into Wire Diagrams
All, I've run into an issue that I need help with.
When I run synthesis, and then generate wire diagrams, the FMC's are not being carried over to the wires.
Anyone have any ideas?

VeSys 2.0 question: inserted harness objects have a huge size in an New project?
Hello VeSys specialists, can the unexpected behaviour, as shown on picture, still be solved?
Luckily I had one proper backup of the VeSys (embeddeddata) database, otherwise its impossible to find out the reason for every new added item like a splice or grommet have such Hugesize!
As far I can analyse the only one handling I did, was: exporting existed harness diagram (eg. VeSys-DOOR - .dsi) and in another new created 'clean' project have imported this mentioned harness. So what went wrong (in this basic VeSys handling) so badly that the symptoms with oversized harness parts?
PS. the Projects units are by default set to mm.

DDR 3 Layout across 2 pcbs
I have a design with an FPGA and DDR3. The DDR3 is on a daughter board of the FPGA board. I'm starting layout of the DDR3 board. I have to length match the total length of the Address and Data lines from the FPGA to the DDR3 (across 2 boards). It looks like I'll have to set up length rules for each board, then export each trace's length to a spreadsheet and match them by hand. Does anybody know of a better way? My PADS Router package does not include autorouting with length rules.

VP - Presentation
Team,
Todays meeting was a fruitful one and I believe we agreed to the following:
1. The 15 minute presentation would consist of no more than 5 slides.
2. The first slide would be a re-statement of the problem areas within the customer, as identified through other community threads.
3. We may or may not include a swimlane if we feel it would be prudent to highlight the pilot process. Initial feelings are that this would not be necessary.
4. We need to agree on a direction for the pilot, knowing we have 3 months, we need to compile a list of objectives, and document a flow.
5. Initial thoughts were to focus on change and configuration management. Other areas we may consider include, systems (functional design), manufacturing, service.
I propose to add the slides here as we agree on the content.
As for the Pilot, I have a few questions/suggestions for the group as we push forward.
1. Are we proposing a green field pilot, or will we want to migrate some of their existing designs?
2. Do we want to consider first pass generative?
3. Will our current implementation of effectivity be simple enough, yet complete enough, to answer the configuration problem?
4. How much integration to the rest of the enterprise do we add in? Teamcenter? MCAD? etc...
5. API/Extensibility exposure. I am sure there will be some reporting requirements, but what else may we want to consider? Bridges? Web Services?
6. The Publisher piece is essentially free, I think we should include this in the pilot.
I am not saying we have to document any of this, but we should at least have these concepts in mind whilst building a proposal.
I am also sure that there are 101 other things we could add to this list, but right now I am thinking outside of the core tools.

[solved] Can't import drill data generated from PADS Layout 9.1 into GC-Prevue
Dear All
My PCB supplier make claims he is not able to import drill data using my files generated from PADS Layout 9.1 into GC-Prevue.
Drill data is contained inside files: rep, lst, drl, but PCB supplier is not able (they cannot to import drill data into GC-Prevue (freeware gerber viewer) to import drill data. For him all holes have the same / identical hole diameter.
Could you please support me / them ?

Image to Layout (Logic)
I was trying to use the good old bmp2asc program to import a bitmap into Layout.
But I couln't figure out a way to make it working under Win 7 x64.
So I gave up bmp2asc and I wrote my own script which can be run from within Layout and it also presents a GUI.

PADS Logic reannotate
Hi All,
Long time no talk. I'm back on the design side anddoing some robust designs. They're cobbling a board out of circuits used on other board. (They're using PADS Logic).
Hoow the heck do you reannotate the ref des? Starting from one? (R1, R2...C1, C2 etc). In OrCAD it was a button click. Help greatly appreciated. Bob Wilson pcbdznr@gmail.com

Symbols from schematic to LibraryManager

I have a EE flow 7.9.2 (DxD)
I have a schematic in which I have a symbols - parts from my library but in Library Manager were some of them deleted . Now I need salvage deleted symbols and put them back to my Library Manager.
Does somebody know the process to save the symbols?
(How to export them from schematic.. in which format)

Dx symbol editor - Border symbol creation
Hello all,
does anybody created a new symbol (own) for border (from the scratch)... not by copy/paste as in documentation is noted?
I did some but I can't see it during mapping it into sheet size in DxDesigner.
What is wrong?
I noticed that there have to be some things for defining the BORDER symbol.... but nowhere it is described:
position of symbol outline
ANNOTATION
and some other
I cant see my own border symbol during border configuration...
Does anybody help me to find an appropirate document which describes how to create the BORDER symbol to be able to see it in list of possible borders for assigning to the sheet size?

Copying Designs from One Project to Another Issues.
Hello,
I wanted to send a note out to the communities on sync new designs into a Project. Currently we have a Master Logic Bookshelf and a project for each vehicle platform. We currently exported the designs out of the Master logic design bookshelf on 1/10/2015. Our design team has updated logics and I want to "Copy Advance" the new logics into our Project for the vehicle platform.
When the logic updates are created and copied I am running into a couple different issues.
- Conductors nets that are shared aren't being sync over back into the logic once copied into the new project. Example: J1939 multicore nets are not attached to the existing J1939 shared nets in Platform project.
- Tried a different method of copying the logics. I checked the "Overwrite" box. When the export happens it fails with the message: Copy Design Failed. Selected designs cannot be copied in overwrite mode.
I wanted to see if there was a process or recommendation that people had.

PartQuest for PADS is Almost Here!
PADS users will soon be able to use PartQuest with xDX Designer and PADS Layout! The integration of PADS and PartQuest will be available with the PADS VX.1 release, currently scheduled for April 2015.

You will be able to search, research, and purchase the parts needed for your new design. In addition, over 360,000 of these parts have been populated with schematic symbols and PCB footprints, which will be downloaded directly into your xDX Designer and PADS Layout libraries for immediate use in your design, minimizing library development time. (by the way – you don’t have to purchase the part before you download the library data!)
PartQuest with PADS initially supports PADS net list projects with and without the use of xDX Databook, our component management system. If xDX Databook is in use, the
parametric part information will be downloaded for use.

Looking for 3rd party schematic symbol editors
Since Mentor has chosen to ignore this area for the netlist flow, we're looking to see if there are any 3rd party schematic symbol editors out there.
Some key requirements:
Able to mine PDF component specifications to get the Pin/Pin number data.
Able to create fractured parts.
Able to check and make sure all pins are accounted for.
Able to check for duplicate pins.
